ABSTRACT

All learning targets must include at least one verb that will result in a measurable action, task, or product. Intentionally utilizing measurable verbs necessitates the creation and/or utilization of measurable tasks. The creation and/or utilization of measurable student tasks helps facilitate classroom instruction that will prepare students for the completion of such tasks. The lack of clear learning outcomes encumbers student learning and increases the likelihood that classroom instruction will fail to meet its intended purpose. Daily learning targets and classroom instruction aligned with assessed standards are essential foundational components of school growth. Scaffolding is a key feature of effective teaching and is instrumental in fostering student learning. It enables students to achieve learning objectives that would not normally be obtainable and can produce immediate leaning gains while also developing independent problem-solving skills. Writing high quality learning targets takes practice.
