ABSTRACT

This chapter begins by detailing the ways in which Black educational leaders are silenced within educational spaces. Echoing themes from the previous chapter, the authors present numerous examples of the ways in which Black educational leaders experience racist affronts designed to silence, break, and remove from schools. In a detraction from other educational texts, the authors argue that these instances contribute heavily to the educators’ failing physical and mental health, and therefore are not sustainable. The authors clarify the additional level of concern and advocacy for students that Black educational leaders demonstrate and hold daily. The chapter concludes with the acknowledgment that working within racist educational systems is unhealthy and encourages career flight.
