ABSTRACT

This chapter helps students to learn the top “tech” skills they must acquire for success in college and the chief tech tools to learn for college. Gaining a better understanding of technology will also help make them more marketable to employers, too, as almost all professional jobs now require strong technology skills. Although learning these new technologies can be frustrating at first, if they keep practicing and ask for help when they need it, their skills will improve, and so will their confidence. The chapter focuses on two areas of technology: skills and tools. Learning management systems are essentially online classrooms, somewhat similar to Facebook, but for educational purposes. These systems provide an online platform that allows students' professor to communicate with them, and vice versa. Many professors post announcements, assignments, grades, and course documents via these learning management systems, and they may turn in assignments exclusively through them.
