ABSTRACT

Many people start with earning a certificate first and then later add a degree or two. Still other people do the opposite: They earn a degree first, and then add a certificate later to make themselves more marketable. This strategy of earning credentials slowly over time and building on them is called earning stackable credentials meaning that you first earn one credential, and then the students stack another on top of it. These stackable credentials can work well in many fields, so if you’re interested, check with people's advisor, Career Center, and/or people working in the field to see if this strategy works well in that particular profession. Since most students are at least partially motivated by the income they’ll earn from their future occupation, you will find on the following page the highest-paying occupations by education, including the job prospects for these occupations, according to the US Department of Labor.
