ABSTRACT
This chapter will discuss the Internet and the digital revolution, as well as the relationship between e-mail and the medication prescriber. This chapter will also include a fact sheet for patients about electronic information. Electronic medical records (EMRs) will be discussed, as well as electronic prescribing and prescriptions. Telepsychiatry (medication management via the computer) will be discussed, as well as Internet-based mental health treatment modalities. The chapter will conclude by exploring: Internet-based medication reference and educational information, both for practitioners and for patients; websites maintained by practitioners for patient information; data collection, protocols and oversight; online patient access to medical records; computer and Internet security.
