ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the expectations from a modern form of university called the co-creative university. The modifier itself suggests an emphasis on the development of students’ creativity in the process of multi-level cooperation involving not only academic staff and students but also a range of external stakeholders. The co-creative university should, like a beacon, highlight the important social and economic objectives around which the available resources should be mobilised. The co-creative university should offer the widest possible access to education, depending on the eligibility of applicants rather than the financial status of their parents. The co-creative university, capable of providing access to exceptionally gifted but underprivileged young people, should be part of a flexible education system which offers a range of opportunities to people at different stages of their lives and with different educational experiences. The co-creative university, through stable, long-term relationships with external actors, builds trust by encouraging participation in joint projects.
