ABSTRACT

This chapter offers and explores the relationship between development education and related ‘adjectival’ sectors such as Climate Change Education, Human Rights Education and Education for Sustainable Development. It also reflects on ‘Educating the Heart’, a relatively new global learning programme which aims ‘to create compassionate and active citizens who are engaged critically with global issues and have the knowledge, skills, emotional intelligence and creativity needed to create a fair and sustainable world’. This chapter explores how these educations can challenge the negative effects of globalisation and support public engagement and debate on how to ‘de-grow’ the neoliberal economy.
