ABSTRACT
This chapter explores death and dying, an important yet seldom discussed element of aged care: as one resident explained, “we know we will die here, but we can have fun waiting”. In addition to documenting how residents and their families approached declining health and death, a critical contribution of this chapter is how residential aged care staff negotiated the loss of residents, and remembered them, through rituals and formal memorial ceremonies.
