ABSTRACT

There is so much that could be done by policy makers to bring about a housing system for health and wellbeing, with some excellent initiatives already in train. It will be argued that lack of trust in politicians and local authorities could be alleviated by the introduction of a transparent and participatory planning system. This has to start with units of governance and the joining up of the health, social care and housing agendas, as well as the fostering of community-based innovation. A reform of landownership and tax are the levers necessary to bring about this transformation.
