ABSTRACT

This chapter sets out the housing situation for people in Britain at this time with statistics on where people live, home ownership and homelessness. It isn't just a numbers game - access to good quality housing in the right places with adequate transport, and other, infrastructure is vitally important. These impact on social cohesion, loneliness and mental and physical health with the situation being particularly pronounced for old people who are faced with few choices to live out their lives well.
