ABSTRACT

The focus of this chapter is on the people who build housing and the way that social value is draining out of the delivery system. It starts with a discussion of land as access to land and planning, both of which restrict the building of houses, before moving onto a discussion of the client team and house builders. The focus then turns to the much rarer but higher social value activities of building public rented housing and self built housing and finishes with a comment on the lack of diversity in housing delivery organisations, something that is impacting on the way in which housing is being built in the UK today.
