ABSTRACT

Very little formal research has been undertaken on what promotes hope and wellbeing in housing, the focus of housing studies has been very largely on economics. This chapter describes the knowledge economy of housing starting with a broad discussion of research and its development across government and universities, before homing in on the current state of housing research in practice and academia. Observations are made about the way in which the arts and humanities have been excluded from discussions about housing. It is no wonder that the public is so poorly informed about housing given all these weaknesses in the research culture of the field.
