ABSTRACT
This chapter sets out a range of ways in which home and neighbourhood design can impact on our ability to connect with one another, a key dimension of social value and wellbeing. It starts with a discussion of density and mix, before moving on to the importance of building connective social infrastructure, the way that sharing happens at the scale of housing. It finishes with a reflection on digital devices and the ways in which they both help and hinder purposeful connection.
