ABSTRACT

This chapter reflects on some of the ways in which homes and neighbourhoods can impact specifically on our physical health, a further key dimension of social value and wellbeing. It begins with a discussion of active travel before moving on to the need to make space for exercise and play. Sleep and rest are just as important as movement for keeping healthy. The home strongly influences our ability to relax. The chapter finishes with a discussion of community gardening, which has the double benefit of providing food and exercise simultaneously.
