ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces Nintendo as a global media giant, by providing some brief history and context for the company’s successes that will be taken up in subsequent chapters. It provides some comparison to other media companies in order to begin to draw out what makes Nintendo distinct. It briefly discusses the global video game industry and Nintendo’s role in it before concluding with an overview of the remainder of the book.
