ABSTRACT

The journey to valuing the weight of one’s floating bones redefines the purpose of bones for the dancer during movement. Valuing the weight of floating bones simply requires a change in attention. This change is the cognitive adjustment that occurs when one begins to perceive the weight of one’s floating bones. Integrating one’s body from parts to a whole is a healing process. In time, from sensing the weight of one’s bones and finding length in one’s body emerges a satisfaction that leads one towards holism, and a sense of self emerges. Integrating limbs into and through one’s torso, sensing all energy lines going through the limbs so that more and more one values the weight of one’s floating bones, changes the modus operandi for the dancer. The weight of the bones focusing more attention on the joints of the body means the dancer is working with more non-linearity in the body.
