ABSTRACT

Chapter 4 addresses the author’s work for and with refugees in Philadelphia, a third and equally unique context compared with those of Jordan and Germany. In Philadelphia, he collaborated with HIAS, a government-funded, privately operating organization that has focused on assisting newly arrived refugees to integrate into the U.S. The chapter explores practical questions about drama therapy and its implication within the context of applied theater workshops. Other questions that are tackled in this chapter are those of aesthetic theater versus applied theater, in addition to the roles of movement and physicality in applied theater.
