ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces Bayesian data analysis, and discusses its potential advantages in the field of second language acquisition, which has always been (and still is) dominated by Frequentist statistics. Bayesian models are more customizable and offer numerous advantages over more traditional Frequentist models (covered in previous chapters). Chapter 10 explains how to run linear, logistic and ordinal models using Bayesian estimation. It also explores in detail how to visualize, interpret, and assess such models. Bayesian data analysis is a powerful tool, and is in its infancy in second language research.
