ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with hardware and other essential Theatre Supplies. Some of the hardware was developed to build and rig scenery, but most of it is primarily used to build things other than theatre scenery. The chapter also includes things like wire, sandpaper, and fabrics that are used so frequently in a theatre scene shop that they are often kept "in stock" and ready to use at any moment. It is the modern term for the hardware group containing nails, staples, screws, and bolts. It is important to know the names and definitions of things not simply to be able to ask for them, but also because knowing how something works can help a technician to understand why it might be important to choose one piece of hardware over another. A fabric stapler is a pneumatic gun that shoots very small gauge staples that are often used in upholstery work.
