ABSTRACT

My friend Geoffrey Wexler walked into the lecture hall at Doshisha Business School and asked everyone to turn off their mobile phones and shut their computers. After the muffled groans subsided, he then proceeded to walk around the room with a bowl full of old, used pencils, asking students to take one so they had something to write with. When given the offer, all of the students took a pencil except one, who looked into the bowl, looked up at Jeff and said, “no thanks, I’ve got my own.” He moved on until he had offered a used pencil to everyone in the lecture hall.
