ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses the issue of Strategic Alignment and reviews this issue from an Outside In and Inside Out perspective. The Shell transformation journey has started, but at the end of the day, its completion will be subject to strategic choices enacted within a context referred to as midterm strategy. The monitoring of alignment issues associated with internal strategising were considered to be issues of philosophy and entropy. The management of these issues would, Alicia and the Community of Strategy Practice suggested, be included in the strategy toolkit as key areas for evaluation and review. None of the nominated Alignment touch points that are apparent within the Third Wave Strategy framework are meant to be exclusive or conclusive, nor are they designated as official areas of Alignment in themselves. The specific action that is evolved as an outcome from a midterm strategy will also take a little while to complete.
