ABSTRACT

The tables illustrate the biophilic functions of the pattern attributes of the six precedents and the Serenbe case study, and identify the positive outcomes for climate neutrality, sustainability, placemaking, health and wellness, and the numinous. The major outcome categories include sustainability, placemaking, and health and wellness. The pattern attributes that are most present include plant kingdom and spatial order and connectivity, and the highest scores for outcomes are social interaction, place identity, community building, stress reduction, emotional effects, and the experience of awe. The views and vistas, indoor–outdoor spaces, and prospect and refuge are also present. The spatial structure supports density, mix of uses, pedestrianization, and the super-blocks. The Likert scale numbers for Serenbe indicate that the most effective patterns are connections to the plant kingdom, sensory connections, access to water and waste ameliorations, effectiveness of the spatial order, and encouragement of social interaction.
