ABSTRACT

Concerned with both popular and canonical literature, this chapter deals with the challenges involved in the different stages of producing literary translations from translated texts and for further translation (including commissioning and revising translations). It will pay particular attention to issues related to cultural awareness, copyright and ethics. Upon successful completion of this chapter, readers will know how to assess the relevance and accuracy of intermediary versions of a source text; use previous corresponding translations in other languages in a legal, ethical and constructive way; and take into account the potential risk of central mediating languages having a domesticating effect.
