ABSTRACT

The chapter discusses the aim and scope of Models of Society and Complex Systems, and introduces readers to the general principles of modelling social and institutional dynamics, and discusses its potential, limits, and possible caveats. The chapter also provides a broad overview of the various mathematical approaches that are studied in this book. It discusses similarities and differences between the different toolkits as well as their complementarities.

The introduction further elaborates how Models of Society and Complex Systems can be used as a textbook for undergraduate and graduate courses.
