In reality, many discussions on digital supply chains focus on leveraging new technologies. Of course, introducing a digital supply chain based on a resilient understanding requires an agile approach. Moreover, introducing a digital supply chain is never a one-off exercise but rather a continuous effort. Anyone who wants to develop supply chains in the direction of digitalization must first understand the development to date, the status and the key factors influencing future development. When deriving the target state in the direction of digital supply chains, the same dimensions of supply chain management can be used as for maturity measurement. The way supply chain management is anchored within the organization typically says a lot about the appreciation of it as well as the supply chain governance. In order to drive supply chain evolution and improvements associated, it is vital to have a proper approach to the operational supply chain coordination in place.
