This chapter looks in the rear-view mirror, at pivotal episodes and persons in the escalation of environmental concerns in the last century: oil spills, sustainability, environmental justice, the dominion of man, ecofeminism, animal welfare, Aldo Leopold, Rachel Carson, John Muir, and the founding of environmental ethics—and Donald Trump’s contemporary environmental U-turn.
