ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights existing good practice by outlining the theories, techniques and tools currently used by analysts to assist in the reduction of crime. This is divided into four elements. First it will explain how crime concentrates across time, place and people. Secondly, it will explain how these re-occurring patterns can be analysed to understand the opportunities that allow them to occur. Third, using an offender perspective it will explore how effective interventions can be designed and recommended. Finally, it will describe the different assessment techniques that can be implemented to establish whether the intervention has made an impact.
