ABSTRACT

Ethics should not remain in statements of principles; it is necessary to promote educational actions and create internal spaces for discussion. Training is a fundamental tool to transfer knowledge and information and to impact the thinking and behavior of individuals. The Italian philosopher and jurist Cesare Beccaria (1738–1794), at the age of 25, wrote a short work titled On Crimes and Punishments, an essay that was important in the development of criminal law. For example, at the Ethics Institute at Kent Place School, in New Jersey, USA, secondary school students discussed the case of an individual who enters a coffee shop wearing a T-Shirt with a Swastika, which clearly offends other customers. There are situations in which acting out of ethics can appear to be a good business in the short term. To avoid bad decisions, companies must permanently train their employees and must be clear in the commitment to always act within ethics.
