ABSTRACT

This chapter traces the development of the EdLab media team. The team developed from an original interest in identifying and preserving earlier generations of media held by the library. As the role of media became more important in online venues and as tools for both creating and sharing media became more available, it was clear that the role of the library and the EdLab would increasingly require skills in media production. The earliest iteration of the media team focused on creating video to support other educational materials or as stand-alone learning experiences. While the learning goals were paramount, the production standards were not as central. Later as the team developed, a greater emphasis on production processes and standards led to higher quality products. The addition of a writing workshop component supported the development of original scripted material. As the team matured and grew, their work reflected both enhanced production standards and an educator’s perspective. This allowed the team to produce hundreds of episodes of a weekly video program featuring innovative learning opportunities. The media team also played a key role in the production of large format media for use in the Learning Theater and for managing media throughout the facility.
