ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the large number of projects mounted by the EdLab. After a period of relatively unregulated project development, a decision was made to organize projects in five focal areas: (1) innovations for online learning, (2) new directions for online publishing, (3) charting the future of libraries, (4) reimagining schooling, and (5) efficiencies in educational research. Projects in each of these areas are described in detail, including the outcomes in each case. Projects were assessed for their potential to contribute to advancing the services of the library and enhancing the learning experiences for library patrons. Most engaged students and a number of administrators and faculty. Over the course of the discussion, lessons learned about project development and the sustainability of different types of projects and services are drawn. Many of these lessons reflect the power of the methods and approaches typically associated with academic research and teaching as a foundation for creating innovations in the operations of educational institutions. The chapter concludes by considering the challenge of accommodating a large number of project ideas and nascent projects without stifling the impulse to innovate.
