ABSTRACT
The skill of studying usually has to be learnt, so it's worth thinking carefully about the basics. The Open Learn section of the Open University is a very useful resource which is free and available worldwide. There is an extensive study skills section containing units which range from three to fifty hours of study. Learning by rote is a popular learning method in many countries and is very useful for specific learning tasks, such as tables and formulae. It is useful to have a range of techniques for memorising, since what works for one person may not work for another. The examiners note that many candidates are well prepared and that their answers are relevant and comprehensive and show that they not only have the necessary knowledge, but that they are able to apply it to the workplace situation.
