ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the general requirements for work equipment and explains the hazards and controls for hand-held tools. It describes the main mechanical and non-mechanical hazards of machinery and explains the main control measures for reducing risks from machinery hazards. There are two types of law affecting work equipment: Equipment supply law and Equipment user law. The Declaration of Conformity states that the equipment complies with all relevant health and safety requirements. The chapter provides statutory requirements for examination of boilers and air receivers. It lists out different factors in guard construction such as compatibility with process and free flow of air (ventilation and/or cooling).
