ABSTRACT

Sex and the City, Girls, and Entourage are all focused on one main protagonist and her/his three best friends. In WandaVision, there are multiple realities (aka multiverses) separated by a magical forcefield controlled by Wanda. In Unorthodox, the regimented confines of the life that Esty Shapiro (Shira Haas) lived as a member of an orthodox Hasidic Jewish community in Brooklyn stands in stark contrast to the free-spirited life she lives at a music academy in Berlin after fleeing New York. Although both realities are legitimate and happening in parallel, the only thing they seem to have in common is Esty herself. The Handmaid’s Tale is narrated by June/Offred – a captive handmaiden who’s resigned to surviving the oppressive, patriarchal theocracy, in the fictional Republic of Gilead. She is the voice of the powerless in the society, exposing the sociopolitical innerworkings of the dystopian state.
