ABSTRACT

The antagonist will be the primary person or force that most actively challenges or threatens people's protagonist – thereby directly impeding people's protagonist from attaining their main goals. Antagonists often want something the protagonist possesses. Antagonists tend to be parasites who outwardly seek to get power from others – by any means necessary: deception, theft, murder, manipulation – as opposed to protagonists, who tend to discover that their power lies within. Antagonists almost always try to subvert the truth. Antagonists are roadblocks or speed bumps in a protagonist’s micro missions. Episodic series encompass overarching goals for each main character in a season or over the course of the whole series. The antagonist will oft en have the same goal as the protagonist – but with a negative or evil agenda. The external world mirrors the internal world, which is usually why protagonists overcome their inner demons by slaying their external adversaries.
