ABSTRACT

Chapter 7, Riyadh Drifting: Walking in the City, examines the concept of walking and how it has become an integral component of modern city life. In reviewing walking paths in Riyadh specific attention is paid to activities that occur besides walking and the extent of institutional support offered by the city. The chapter concludes with an assessment of pedestrian-based initiatives in Saudi Arabia and provides suggestions for improvement, specifically the idea of creating a network of paths to establish a truly meaningful urban walking environment.
