ABSTRACT

This chapter begins with a brief overview of ideas about Kosovo’s territorial adjustments. It examines the value aspects of both territory (the northern part of Kosovo) and peace (recognition of Kosovo’s independence). The chapter then explores the interaction between crucial and supplementary conditions that may (dis)allow a land-for-peace settlement between Kosovo and Serbia. The findings of the chapter suggest that, although there have been elements in the crucial conditions that could have provided some room for a land-for-peace settlement to be achieved, these conditions have not (yet) been entirely aligned in the right direction to allow such an agreement to materialise. The examination of supplementary condition reveals that actors at both the domestic and international environments have been highly fractured, which further has hindered the possibility of such a settlement.
