ABSTRACT

How do teachers design literacy lessons for their thematic unit? We begin with the selection of texts that meet the content learning objectives. We describe how utilizing the Quad Text Set framework can be a beneficial practice for selecting texts for integrated instruction. Teachers can use the four components of the Quad Text Set (visual texts, informational texts, hook texts, and a target text) to support the construction of meaning behind the content and through the texts. Finally, we provide examples of Quad Texts aligned with science, social studies, and math objectives.
