ABSTRACT

Every month, we must receive at least 20 emails each that are pitched a little too informally. They might start ‘Hey Miss’ or contain smiley faces, and sometimes if the student is feeling particularly affectionate, we might even get a few ‘xxx’ at the end! All of these examples are inappropriate in an email to your lecturer or any member of staff within your institution. In the dawn of the smart phone era, we are now all prone to receiving more emails than we would like. You need to ensure that what you are saying comes across well and cannot be misinterpreted.
