ABSTRACT
The woman suffrage movement gained an important victory when California passed a referendum to amend the state constitution and grant women the right to vote in 1911. Success there mirrored changes at the national level, with a diverse coalition of college, wealthy, and working-class women. California suffragists were also racially and ethnically diverse, including Black, Latina, and Chinese immigrant women.
