ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses identification and traceability of product and describes the role of inward goods officer, quality control officer, engineering manager, stock room personnel, and line supervisor. The responsibility of the inward goods officer is: to identify all incoming materials using the documents provided by the supplier and compare the product details against the documents such as packing slip, pallet label and/or test results and to assign a unique identification number to each delivery and record the details in the inward goods log book. All finished products carry a product code and a batch code which identifies the product, production date, line number and other information related to the product. Verification activities relating to finished products are defined in Release of Finished Goods Procedure and Inspection and Test Status Procedure.
