ABSTRACT

This chapter explains how to handle and store goods. The responsibilities of production supervisor are to alletise the product and label the pallets for transport to the warehouse and to keep a record of pallet numbers for reconciliation. The responsibilities of warehouse administration are to assign a location for storage, to make entries in the warehouse computer module, to update inventory levels, and to make stock “unallocable” until released by QA. Product preservation is maintained through identification, handling, contamination control, packaging, storage, transmission, transport and storage. Preservation methods applicable to specifications, regulatory requirements and customer requirements include, but are not limited to, cleaning and sanitation, prevention, detection and removal of foreign objects, prevention of cross-contamination, pest control, special handling and storage of sensitive products, marking and suitable labelling, etc. Product being prepared for shipment should have an indication of release or passed for shipment.
