ABSTRACT
This chapter explains how to install computer hardware and software. It describes the role of the Information Technology (IT) manager, IT staff, department manger, and employees. The responsibility of the IT manager is to purchase hardware and necessary software, to authorise software maintenance agreements, and to be responsible for licensing arrangements. The responsibility of the IT staff is to install and maintain hardware and software, identify all hardware with a number or name, keep records of installed hardware, software and location, replace hardware every three years or in case of breakdown, monitor and prevent the installation of unauthorised software, and provide technical support. All requests for hardware and software should be included in the annual department budget.
