ABSTRACT

This chapter explains how to perform back-up and recovery of data. It describes the role of manager information systems, Information Technology (IT) staff, and employees. The responsibility of the manager information systems is to select suitable back-up media and software (backup-media may include cloud computing technology). The responsibility of the IT staff is: to schedule, carry out back-ups as scheduled and complete the back-up log book Secure back-up media, to monitor, label, supply and replace back-up media, and to store back-up media offsite. Other responsibilities are to perform file/data restores from back-up media, to validate the accuracy, completeness and integrity of the back-ups, and to notify back-up errors to the Manager Information Systems. The Manager Information Systems should establish a disaster recovery plan for business continuity.
