ABSTRACT

One should identify the context and appropriately weigh the value of each measurement for the task at hand when designing usability evaluation tools. A measure of efficiency is usually included in any usability evaluation. It provides some insight into the potential technology that disrupts workflow in a detrimental fashion. Effectiveness is defined as the accuracy and completeness with which users perform a task. This measure considers how easy it is for users to make and/or correct errors as they perform a given task. Since user errors can compromise a patient’s safety, this component of usability is often weighted more heavily than others in the healthcare setting. User satisfaction is one of the most underrated measurement modalities in healthcare. Generally, healthcare workers are a highly motivated and skilled workforce. They have a real sense of ownership and give excellent feedback when asked.
