ABSTRACT

This chapter examines connecting to learners’ prior knowledge in actual practice. Participants revisit previous Research Discussions on reflective practice and professional learning to recall their commitment to reflective practice and making their practice public. They are introduced to additional Tools for Reflective Practice—which they soon practice using during a Video Reflection in whole group. The processes for gathering Educator Moves and Institutional Practices across the small groups need to be available to everyone. Educator Moves are categories for observable actions that educators take when they teach. How those Moves look can be different between educators and types of learning experiences. Members of the community negotiate the meaning of those categories as they use them, add details, and perhaps generate new Moves. Over time, those Moves can become part of the community’s language to talk about its work.
