ABSTRACT

This chapter offers TAs an explanation of the theory of multi-sensory teaching and its impact on the progress and attainment of pupils with SEND.

The chapter identifies the need to consider the effect of the learning environment on pupils, encouraging sensory balance and avoiding over-stimulation and distraction. TAs are invited to take part in a series of activities by which to evaluate and audit the sensory aspects of the classroom.

A number of practical resources are included; these support a multi-sensory approach and can be edited, printed and used with pupils.
