ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the possibilities of utilizing nudges to improve and augment school behavioural systems. “Nudge” as an idea was developed by Richard Thaler and Cass Sunstein. Richard Thaler won the Nobel Memorial Prize for economics for his work. Nudge is a method to help individuals choose the right option (at times by overriding their cognitive biases) without coercion. The various applications of nudges in school systems are presented within the discourse. The chapter explores the prospect of nudging various types of schools in India to improve school outcomes. The ideas and theories are presented through real-life cases and experiences.
