ABSTRACT
This chapter examines legal concepts and procedures that are important to an understanding of the law of public communication. It explains that law in the United States comes from constitutions, statutes, administrative agencies, executive orders, common law and equity. In addition to explaining the purpose and organization of law, the chapter describes court procedures and discusses the litigation process. Finally, this chapter reviews how communicators work with lawyers.
