ABSTRACT

Chapter 2 provides a broad overview of how technology has been used for language teaching and learning since the 1960s. Next, it discusses these CALL trends using three categories of technology integration: in-class CALL, extracurricular CALL, and extramural CALL. In sum, the first two concepts are mainly devoted to the role of CALL practitioners inside the classroom, while the third focuses more on the role of learners who learn and use a second language outside the classroom through the use of computers.
