ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we present the themes arising from our analysis of the narrative data, which we interpret through the lens of interaction. We categorise the narratives according to three interactional functions: discordant and disempowering interactions; nourishing and empowering interactions; and situated and self-regulatory interactions. We show how the interactions experienced by the students are multifaceted and complex; they comprise multiple factors both animate and inanimate, concrete and abstract, and as such cannot be categorised according to simplistic typologies of interaction.
